Themes vs manual overrides

A theme is a live overlay on the email. Editing a control on a block locks that field so the theme no longer drives it.

What is a theme overlay?

A theme is a live overlay. When Apply theme is on, theme colours, type, padding, and borders fill in unless you have changed that field on the block. The stored blocks are not rewritten when you pick a theme.

A manual override is what happens when you edit a control on a block. That field stops following the theme until you reset it or turn that theme category off.

How they interact

  • Turn Apply theme on to let the overlay drive matching fields.
  • Edit a colour, font, or padding on a block to lock that field.
  • Turn a theme category off (for example Colours) to use the document’s own values again.

If a block stopped changing when you pick a new palette, that field is overridden. Reset it or re-apply the category if you want the theme to drive it again.
